2008 DEMOLITION DERBY RULES & REGULATIONSSaturday July 19 and September 13 Registration fee: 25.00
There will be two classes: Full size and Compact
Rules for drivers and crew members .
- All drivers must be 16 years of age.
- All drivers must wear an approved helmet, eye protection, and seatbelt. Safety gloves, neck collar, and knee pads are highly recommended. No shorts, cut-offs, etc. permitted. Helmet and seat belts must be on and fastened while in the car and on the track.
- Good sportsmanship and professional behavior is expected of all drivers and crew members. Failure to comply with this rule may lead to suspension from this event.
- There will be no profane signs or derogatory comments allowed on trucks. (The little kids are your fans also.)
- No pit crew member or spectator is allowed on the track at any time.
- There will be no tag teaming at any time is this event.
- There will be no sandbagging!!! THE FIRST TIME YOU WILL BE GIVEN A WARNING. THE 2ND TIME YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED!
- YOU ARE HERE TO PUT ON A GOOD SHOW. LET'S SEE WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF.
Failure to abide by the following rules will result in DISQUALIFICATION
TYPE OF TRUCKS: Must be passenger style vehicles. Pickup trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, or Vans. (4x4's are welcome and will be to your advantage, but 2 - wheel drives are welcome.)
PREPARATION OF TRUCKS:
- All windshields, headlights, taillights, and all additional glass must be removed before entering the grounds.
- All carpet, headliners, door panels, and back seats must be removed before enter the grounds. Blazers fiberglass roofs must be removed.
- Driver's door must be painted white for safety.
- Hood springs must be removed, but hood hinges must remain intact. If you choose not to run a hood you must also remove the fan blade.
- If the floor is rusted through on the driver's side, it must be patched.
- All trucks must have an on/off toggle or key switch. No twisting of wires because this is not a quick shut off. If you are running an electric fuel pump it must be on a toggle within your reach.
- Radiator must remain in original position or it may be removed.
- Tires 31" or 265/75 max. (check with max. bumper height.) Double tires are allowed. Wheel weights must be removed. All snow studs must be removed. No duallies.
- Gas tank must be removed from original position. A metal boat tank or other suitable metal tank should be securely mounted in the center of the bed floor just in front of rear axle. A 2" hole needs to be cut in all four corners of the bed floor and under the tank. Also in the Blazer style please cut two holes in the lowest part of the floor pan. (This is for your safety if the tank gets pierced we want the gas to drain to the ground, and not under your seat!)
- Any size battery may be used. The battery must be securely fastened to the floorboards and covered with a floor mat.
- Stacks through the hood are permitted. If not used, you must cut two holes in the hood in case of a fire.
- All trucks must have an air filter.
- There must be at least one welded bar or pipe from firewall to the roof.
- It is highly suggested to weld bars or pipe around driver's compartment. This is a rectangle across the dash to the door post, down each front doors, and no more than 12" behind the driver's seat
- Truck numbers must be painted on both front doors. First to register with the number gets it, if you run the same number you may have to run an X after yours.
- Body mounts may be removed from original position. A metal boat tank or other suitable metal tank shall be max 3" in diameter by 1/4 " thick. If the mount is rusted out it may be repaired, but repair the hole not strenghthen the frame.
Welding - Suspension - Wiring
- Doors may be welded, wired, or chained shut. If wired, you should wire at least six places. If chained, you should chain at least 4 places. No banding of anything on the outside of car. If your door comes open you are done running.
- If rust holes or tears are patched, the patch must be the same thickness as original sheet metal.
- Rear ends may be welded or locked.
- Welding of bumper shocks and motor mounts is recommended.
- If the frame is torn or broken, it may be plated and fixed, but not boxed in. Leave one side open so we can see why it was fixed. 12" back on all 4 corners of the rails angles can be added to keep the bumpers on 45 degree recommended, but do not cross center line of frame rails or connect the frame rails together. No extra cross members.
- Any factory bumper permitted. No pipe bumpers or pipe welded behind bumpers. Bumper must be in stock location and height with factory frame rails. 31" on level concrete to the bottom of both front and rear . No snow plow brackets or trailer hitches.
- Inner body seams, inner fenders, and inside of doors may be welded. No cement anywhere in vehicles.
- No creasing.
- Front and rear suspension must appear stock. No ladder bars or connecting bars, 10 leafs max with 1" steps no extra straps, bolting together, or welding together, must have some give. Coil trucks can use coil jacks if needed.
- All trucks must have working suspension with a factory shocks. ( No homemade shocks.) Suspension should have at least 2" of travel.
- Remember when choosing your tire size and amount of springs we have a max bumper height.
- Hood may be wired in six places four wraps of wire in each hole. No welding or bolting. In case we have to cur it open for fires reasons.
- Radiator support may be wired to the front bumper in four places four wraps per hole.
- Rear doors and tailgates may be wired ro welded in six places. Wired 4 loops per hole. Welded 6 3x3x1/4 inch plates max.
- Pickups can be welded, cab to bed 3x1/4 inch plate max.
PROCEDURES:
- You must be in tech by 6 pm. Trucks arriving after this time face the possibility of not competing at the discretion of derby officials.
- Drivers must pay attention to the flagman and the red/green flags at all times.
- Drivers must run aggressive while the green flag is out. Cars cannot sit idle for an extended period of time or will be disqualified. Drivers must stay in their cars with seat belt and helmet on until derby is completed or until red flag is out and everyone has stopped.
- Drivers must keep their cars inside the marked off area of competition. Cars that are out of bounds for an extended period of time will be disqualified.
- NO hitting on driver's door. Repeated violations will cause car to be disqualified.
- When the red flag is displayed, all action must come to a halt. Any driver that does not stop hitting in a reasonable period of time will be disqualified.
